Belief – Is it Faith?

The dictionary explains the following:

  • Belief is the feeling of being certain that something exists or is true.
  • Faith is great trust or confidence in something or someone.

I don’t believe you can have one without the other.

Mahatma Gandhi said: “To believe in something, and not to live it, is dishonest.”

Anatole France said: “To accomplish great things we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.

INTUITION – THE VOICE OF TRUTH.

The voice of truth, our intuition, speaks to all of us every single day. Our ability to hear and then believe depends on our willingness to listen. In order to benefit from the voice of truth we must learn to recognize, listen and believe on a regular basis. Wisdom through our voice of truth is available to us at any given time, but our access to that wisdom depends on how open we are to believing the ideas that come our way. Mostly the ideas that pop into our head are actually answers to questions we have.

Some ideas come from part of ourselves that want us to stay in our comfort zone. These are easy to believe as you use them all the time. They have been created out of fear, doubt or worry. Developing a belief in your inner voice, your intuition, will increase your ability to distinguish which ideas will keep you stuck and which ideas will move you forward.

Once you begin to hear your voice of truth and receive ideas that you know will move you forward, it is important to act on the good you know to do. There is no real power in hearing and believing your intuition and not acting on it. Inspiration without action is merely entertainment.

Ask yourself each day, “what step could I take today to move me in the direction of my goals. Act on what you believe in and is most inspiring to you.

PARTNERS IN CRIME.

It is not a sign of weakness when we are unable to believe in our selves. It is simply a sign that we need support. It is a good practice to surround yourself with others that believe in you as there comes a time when your own self belief is diminished. A partner is someone who is not impressed by your challenges and who believes in your potential to achieve your goals.

The solutions to any challenge are easier to find when two or more people work together. Your partners should have a strong belief in your potential and have the ability to see your circumstances from a new perspective. This allows them to look objectively at what you are going through. You must also be willing to support in return. Pick someone who has goals and who would love to improve their own life. I have been a member of a Master Mind Group for some time. We are four in number and meet weekly at the same time. We have all grown as a result. We discuss wins, gratitude and each others problems. The expanded access to answers allows the opportunity to think beyond the problem.

As our belief system encourages us to focus our thoughts we are more confident in dispersing what is in the way of achieving our goals. There are times when we are convinced that our current circumstances and conditions are roadblocks we can’t escape.

SELF BELIEF.

Self belief is that positive feeling you have believing you are capable of anything. If you want more you need to stop telling yourself, “you can’t do this, You don’t deserve it, someone else is better or wishing you were somewhere else.

Self belief can be learnt. Examine those limiting beliefs that restrict you. Write them down so you can dismiss them. Set goals so that you only focus on that which is good for you. Celebrate your successes no matter how small. Never judge or compare. Focus on your improvements only. Keep learning.

The upside of self belief is it stimulates persistence and action. It lets you create solutions and see opportunities. It gives you the freedom to make mistakes.

The key is to be true to yourself and to live your life consistent with your highest values and aspirations. Self belief will allow you the courage to take strong action on your goals.

FAITH

Clarence Smithson wrote : Faith is the ability to see the invisible – to believe in the incredible.

That is what enables you to receive what the masses think is impossible.

If you can show me a person who achieves great things, I can show you a person who has great faith and belief in themselves and their ability to achieve what they image. There is no question that faith and belief have always been the miracle workers throughout history. They are your most valuable non-physical possessions. It is the link between God and you.

They are the cornerstone to everything you will ever build or achieve in your entire lifetime. Comparatively few people realize how much belief and faith in oneself has to do with achievement. It would be safe to say, whatever you accomplish in your lifetime will be in direct proportion to the intensity and persistence of your belief and faith.

FREEDOM.

Yann Martel said, “If you stumble about believability, what are you living for? Love is hard to believe, ask any lover. Life is hard to believe, ask any scientist. God is hard to believe, ask any believer. What is your problem with hard to believe?”

Neil Gaiman said, “You have to believe. Otherwise, it will never happen.”

Truth does not vary, It is eternal. Facts come and go, but to know the truth in the presence of facts gives you power. Maintaining your faith and belief is a never ending process. It is something which you should plan to practice always. You must always have space for the good you desire. It is critical that the new that your faith and belief create has room. You must let go of the old first. Freedom in all negative areas of your life is essential if you are to grow into the great person you are quite capable of becoming.

  1. You are right ‘self belief’ or any belief can be learnt. Beliefs are just thoughts and thoughts can be changed. We need to start becoming aware of what our limiting beliefs are and change them. We have beliefs about all sorts of things – money, relationships, what we can do or have. Once we change these (even if we have to fake it till we make it) our lives and experiences will be different.

    1. Hi Martine, thanks heaps for your comments and your like. Awareness. What a great tool to help recognize our thoughts. Have a great day Stephen.

  2. Hi Stephen. I really like the idea of ‘the Master Mind group’ that you are a part of. As you say, the expanded awareness by receiving other points of view can only be a good thing. I had better round up a few friends and begin a similar group 🙂
I have to agree that nothing significant can be achieved without first having belief in ourselves and then faith that what we can imagine will come to pass.
You touched upon intuition. I believe this is where our highest ideas come from as intuition is our higher aspects of self imparting information to our conscious mind relevant to our purpose for being alive on earth at this time.
I wish you all the best my friend 🙂

    1. Hi Andrew. Thank you for your comments. i agree with intuition. Its when God talks to us. Unfortunately we don’t listen enough.
      Have a great day.
      Stephen.

  3. You have shared two very good things we require in our lives to accomplish our goals, and I do agree you do need both to succeed in anything you wish to accomplish.

What do you think about the possibility of having faith first and belief developing as your confidence improves, I just feel I often have faith in the things to work towards and for me, as I complete each step my belief improves along the way.

    So if this possible?

    Jeff

    1. Hi Jeff. I think that you have belief first and faith grows/strengthens your belief. The belief that you have in the beginning may not be strong. It is your faith that grows it. It is a fine line but they are both part of the same team.
      Stephen.

  4. Jeff,

Faith and belief is a very tender topic, and you treated it very well. I really liked the faith and belief being linked to action. In my mind, if you believe in something, why not act on it? Still though, there are lots of fears that do prevent people from acting on their beliefs. Well done, sir!

    1. Bobby thank you for your interest and feedback. Faith and belief are strong bedfellows. They both support each other, but you are right. They only grow if you take action.
      Have a great day.
      Stephen.

  5. I really like the idea of a mastermind group and choosing your friends. He who walks with the wise becomes wide. Be friendly to everyone but choose your friends carefully. Good friends will bring out the best in you and you should always try to bring out the best in others.
Thanks for sharing this info to help others!
