Introduction

Are you truly ready for a change? Because if you are open and eager to change the way you think, feel, and believe-the path to transformation is real.

Dag Hammarskj6ld-a Swedish diplomat, economist, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Nobel Peace Prize recipient-had been concerned with spirituality and meaning throughout his entire life. After his death in 1961, his journal, voqmarken (“Markings”), was published. In it,

Hammarskj61d reflected that the longest journey is the journey inwards.”

That inward journey is personal development, and as Hammarskj61d implies, it should last a lifetime. There must be a desire for you to pursue that journey-the longest, yet most fulfilling of your life-and discover awakening, empowerment, and significant transformation along the way.

Beginning on the path of personal development isn’t always easy. It will require that you look in the mirror longer and harder than you ever have before. You need to discover your personal power. The more you recognize and understand your innate power, the stronger your ability to direct your life where you want it to go.

Personal development encompasses many facets of life, and we are all unique in our personality, gifts, and interests. There is a need to establish some clear foundations to help you take an in-depth look inward as you begin your unique journey. There is a further need to identify and break free of negative mental programming, to act from inspiration, and to harness the power of the mind to transform your life. These concepts as a foundation for your personal growth, will empower you to create the life you desire.

Coming to Terms with Terms

People around the world have diverse beliefs about the higher power that created us and the world that we live in. There is a myriad of different names it has been given. Many use the term God, The Divine, Spirit, Source Energy, just to name a few. I will use a universal term, the Universe, with a capital U.

The Universe is governed by laws that bring order to chaos. Several of these laws work in concert to create a phenomenon that has become commonly known as the Law of Attraction. This law is based on scientific evidence in the field of quantum physics that demonstrates like energy attracts like energy, or like attracts like.

”The Benevolent Universe”

Do you perceive the Universe as benevolent (serving and charitable) or malevolent (hostile and vengeful)? How you perceive the Universe, or life in general, has a significant impact on your alignment to what you desire and ultimately experience in life. As with everything, your alignment with it has much to do about how you perceive and feel about it.

It is important to operate under a timeless perspective of co-creation with the Universe. If you have never held any spiritual beliefs, this may come as a surprise to you, but inspiration is not a one- way conversation. It isn’t as simple as things popping into your head at random, and you make them happen.

For example, have you ever had an idea for a book, product, or project but failed to act on it? Perhaps you’ve considered writing a book about a subject you’re passionate about. Or maybe you’ve had invention ideas that could significantly impact the world. Perhaps you’ve had an idea for a new children’s toy or an invention that would improve a process or solve a problem. You got very excited about it, but did you act on that idea? If you didn’t move on it, what stopped you from doing so?

All creation occurs between you and the Universe. These can be summarized in the following three steps:

  1. The Universe is continually receiving requests and sending inspiration. Once your intention is made known, tune into and listen for inspiration which can come in many forms such as: ideas, insights, inspired thoughts.
  2. This communication is being filtered through your belief system, which causes you to take a specific set of actions or take no actions at all.
  3. Your creation (whatever it is that you do or make) is the result of how you act on steps one and two. How you read or interpret your creation is also based on your belief system.

When you receive inspiration about creating a new product, that insight you received comes to you as a gift from the Universe. But often when you think about such ideas, conditioned limiting beliefs cause you to doubt and make judgments about them. These judgments and doubts create the thoughts and feelings that stop you from acting. Your mental filter is imposed on them (perspective), telling yourself things like, “I wouldn’t know how to pull that off,” or “Where would I get the money?” or “Surely someone else has already thought of that.” As a result, you block inspiration and feel resistant or unmotivated to act.

Later, you might notice that someone else created the product. This happens all the time. In the words of best-selling author Joe Vitale, “The Universe likes speed!” Inspiration is continually flowing forth from the Universe, and if you choose to ignore it, or procrastinate acting on it, it won’t wait for you. It is up to us to tune into inspiration, quickly act on it, and thus, in a sense, co-create with the Universe.

There are even broader applications to the way the Universe works that extend beyond innovation and creativity. In fact, in any area of your life in which you desire help or guidance, the benevolent Universe is listening. You are like a beacon sending out a signal, and the Universe responds in like kind. But again, your conditioned self-limiting beliefs often get in the

way. For example, you may ask the Universe to help you find your ideal mate. The Universe nudges you to join a group where you could meet that perfect person. However, you talk yourself out of it by telling yourself things like, “But I’ve joined that group before” or, “No one will ever want me because … [fill in the blank].”

The intelligent Universe is conspiring for you, but your beliefs may cause you to push away, or even subconsciously reject the support. If we talk ourselves out of acting on inspiration or refuse to be open to exploring new opportunities and experiences, you may forever remain stuck and never experience the incredible rewards of personal growth.

The Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction is a term used to describe governing laws of the Universe that influence our lives. These laws have been expressed by countless teachers throughout the ages such as Napoleon Hill, James Allen, Wallace O. Wattles, Wayne Dyer, Robert Collier, Michael J. Losier, Charles F. Haanel, and Prentice Mulford, are just a few notable authors who have written on the subject.

Joe Dispenza calls it the placebo effect and has conducted research which reveals scientifically that belief and perception can heal the body, alter matter, and ultimately allow you to create a new reality for yourself. It has also been referred to as the Law of Harvest, the Law of Resonance, the Law of Vibration, the Law of Magnetism, the Law of Success, the Power of Thought, the Law of Creation, and the Law of Manifestation, and the list goes on and on.

We’ll use the term Law of Attraction. When you clarify and empower your intentions with emotion, align your thoughts with your desire, and act from inspiration, you begin to leverage the Law of Attraction.

The key concept to take away here is that you are ultimately responsible for everything that shows up in your life. We realize, you may not “like” your current life experience or at the very least some of the circumstances and challenges that seem to show up repeatedly in cycles or patterns, but nonetheless you are pulling all your experiences and circumstances to you through your alignment with it. You see, you can be aligned to what you don’t want just the same as you can be aligned to what you do want. We are always attracting or repelling.

Sometimes we attract what we do want, sometimes we attract what we don’t want. We can repel what we don’t want, or unfortunately, we often repel what we do want due to misalignment as a result of limiting beliefs.

Of course, the objective here is to put the attention and effort into aligning with what we do want so that we are not attracting by default. When we attract by default, we are at the mercy of what shows up in our life and then have to “deal” with it. Either way, you will attract what you are in alignment with. So why not live intentionally and design your ideal life first in your mind and then align yourself to that design in order to manifest your dream life into reality.

It is essential to recognize that your conditioning is not your fault. Your mindset and perspectives have been built on years of mental conditioning to support others’ agendas. However, though it may not be your fault, it is your responsibility to do something to change it. If not you, who will! The buck stops here! Unfortunately, most people focus and worry about the very things they don’t want, and as a result, they attract more of it!

Everything in your life was drawn to you because of your vibrational alignment. There are no exceptions to these laws. They operate whether you believe in them or not, and as consistently as the law of gravity or the laws of motion.

Unlock the Manifestation of Desire

We are not talking about a Magic Genie that manifests something just because you wish it. Wishing is not enough. You must align and act. You must put in the effort, but the effort can seem effortless and can be an enjoyable journey if you are vibrationally aligned to the desire. The Law of Attraction-like any other natural law-is indifferent to you personally. Thus, harnessing the Law of Attraction to fuel positive change in your life requires that you follow a few crucial steps we can call the 5 Steps of Creation.

  1. Get crystal clear about what you do want. Be specific about what you want to experience materially and emotionally.
  2. Get crystal clear about what you do not want. Be specific about what you don’t want to experience materially and emotionally.
  3. Release any limiting beliefs. Starve what you do not want.
  4. Rewire new empowering beliefs. Visualize the fulfillment of your desire with positive emotions. Feed what you do want. Assume the feeling of the wish fulfilled.
  5. Let go and surrender.

Twentieth Century thought leader Neville Goddard taught concerning the manifestation of desire: Assume the feeling state of your wish fulfilled. Let go of emotional attachment to the outcome and turn it over to a higher power. Allow this or something better!

The Power of the Subconscious Mind

We have established that it is your beliefs which will either support you or prevent you from co-creating with or receiving guidance from the Universe. However, it is essential to understand that you not only have conscious beliefs, but you have subconscious beliefs as well. The majority of which are not held at the conscious level. Our conscious mind can only process about fifteen bits of information at one time. Our subconscious mind can handle billions of bits of information and holds our most potent beliefs thereby directing most of our thoughts and behavior patterns.

The “programming” in our subconscious mind is often limiting or negative, causing us to suffer emotionally and self-sabotage. The goal then is to maintain constant vigilance over your thoughts and emotions so that you can let go of the beliefs which trigger negative emotions. However, considering what we just explained about most beliefs being subconscious, this leads to the obvious question: “How am I supposed to control subconscious thoughts,

thoughts that I’m not even aware of?” The answer is that you can’t-at least not directly. Instead, you must master the skills of identifying and clearing limiting beliefs.

Getting Clear

If you continue doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always gotten. Inevitably, to change your results, you’ll want to exchange the subconscious beliefs that don’t support the results you want for those that do. Now is the time to “release” your subconscious mind of all doubt and negativity.

So how do you do that? Well, the answer to that question requires far more explanation than can be contained in this small section, but just know that “getting clear” of the beliefs that don’t serve you is paramount. Below are proven ways to let go of limiting, negative beliefs so that you can actively leverage the Law of Attraction to create the limitless life you desire.

Each method you can complete on your own. That means that transformational change is well within your reach. To the extent that you invest your time, focus, and energy, you will be rewarded generously.

It is possible to:

  • Reawaken your passions, your purpose, your dreams, your desires-all that you want to be and do.
  • Make peace with your past.
  • Let go of all the fears that no longer serve you.
  • Discover the source of weaknesses and turn them into your greatest gifts.
  • Deepen in gratitude and love for yourself and others.
  • Gain wisdom and understanding about life and human nature.
  • Become more comfortable in your own skin.
  • Become more deeply integrated into your community and your family and discover the fullness of your role within each.
  • Become less “self-centered” and more “others-centered”.
  • Experience a greater sense of integrity toward both yourself and others.

Begin Your Transformation

Set aside time to write down the things you’d like to be, do, or have. This step is important. Something magical happens when you identify and clarify your goals and dreams on paper. You are, in a sense, placing an order with the Universe, and it will begin to bring about circumstances and situations that will help you to create the life you want. Part of the way the Universe will do this is by sending you emotional signals about negative subconscious beliefs you have that you need to change.

As you write down your goals, remember to think big. Let go of all your self-imposed limitations or boundaries. If you could have anything what would it be? In the words of bestselling author, Joe Vitale, “Dare Something Worthy”.

Remember, there are no limits to this exercise. If you knew you couldn’t fail and could do, have, or be whatever you chose, would you ever make excuses? Would you ever be anxious or frightened?

Peak Performance

Peak performance means operating at your full potential. It is far more than merely having high expectations of yourself (after all, you can have high expectations of yourself while also having poor self-esteem and anxiety). Instead, it is an attitude, a daily choice to live a life full of confidence, joy, and total presence. In other words, it is living to your full potential. When you operate as a peak performer, you sustain high levels of clarity, consciousness, confidence, and creativity. Peak performance, unsurprisingly, demands considerable effort on your part, and it requires that you master intention, co-creation, vibrancy, alignment, inspired action, and discipline.

Presence

The second foundational principle is present moment awareness. The word “presence” is associated with awareness and consciousness. Presence is consciousness reclaimed from the mind. It is when you live as this awareness that you are indeed free to choose how you want to respond in situations; otherwise, you are reacting to environmental stimuli based on the programming of your subconscious mind. The following process is one way to cultivate the habit of awareness, and it will thus lay the foundation for change, growth, and transformation in your life. The process will be most effective if you do it exactly as instructed.

The Three-Step Process (by Gil Melff)

Feeding what you want is natural and comfortable, and you are already doing so in many ways.

For that reason, this three-step process is instead focused on starving what you don’t want by merely observing the characteristics of the emotions you are experiencing. This is a form of meta cognition which allows you to distance yourself from your feelings or objectify your emotions. You see yourself as separate from them, and therefore that they are not an essential part of your authentic nature.

To diagnose and then transform your baseline emotional state, check in ten times a day with the following question: “Emotionally, how do I feel in my body right now?” Instead of naming your emotion (i.e., anger or sadness), define it based on how positive or negative it is (on a scale of 1- 10).

To help yourself to remember to do this, invent some sort of reminder system. For example, you could use a reminder app or alarm on your phone, place sticky notes in random places, paint one fingernail different from the rest, wear your watch on the opposite arm or upside down, or put a band-aid on your finger.

If there is ANY kind of negativity, or if the emotion is positive but less than you would choose, the fact is you did not choose it. You are experiencing it because of a program running in your subconscious. To address it, you need to perform the following three steps (if you are already feeling what you would choose, then skip to step two):

1.) Say these specific words: “There it is. That’s not me. That’s a program.”

2.) Observe the emotion(s) deeply. Ask yourself, “Where do I feel these emotions?” or simply state, “I feel it (here). It feels like (this).” Recognize who it is that is doing this inquiring (the answer is that it is you, a completely separate entity from the emotion).

3.) Say these specific words: “Thank You for releasing that. I love you. I love you. I love you.

If you skipped step one and it’s a feeling you would choose, then say: “Thank you for expressing this. I love you. I love you. I love you.”

To summarize, when you identify a negative emotion, go through the following three steps:

There it is. That’s not me. That’s a program. I feel it here (location), it feels like this characteristics). Thank you for releasing that (OR Thank you for expressing this). I love you. I love you. I love you. These steps are not intended to get rid of the negative feeling, because that would be resisting it and therefore feeding it. Sometimes the negative emotion may go away, but that is merely a side effect. This practice is about implementing a new habit/program to cultivate awareness and   ground yourself in the present. Every time you observe an emotion, do so without passing any judgment on it. It doesn’t matter what emotion is there, what matters is that you watch it as a third-party observer. When this becomes a habit, you will have successfully replaced the perpetuation of your old, unconscious program with a new, conscious response.

It takes less than thirty seconds to do this practice. Thirty seconds ten times a day is only five minutes of your time. Keep doing this until this healthy response has become a habit for you.
