The Mind – Power, Stability and Promise

To bring order and understanding to our mind, you must have an image to work with. Since our mind is the unseen part of our body we must engage our imagination to build the image of the mind. This can be accomplished with the stick person.

Do not allow the simplicity of the stick person to deceive you. Study the stick person concept so you can reveal a wonderful world of power, stability and promise. The conscious mind is at the top and the subconscious mind is at the bottom. Circles signify that the head is then joined to a smaller circle, which is your body. Then draw the body with hands and legs. This signifies your behaviors. This signifies that your mind controls our actions.

What we will talk about today is:

  • We have superior power.
  • Our supercomputer.
  • There  are no limits.
  • Change our software.

WE HAVE SUPERIOR POWER.

We can control whatever we think of. We can control our feelings. We can control our actions. We have power that is within us that is far superior to any condition or circumstance around us. Our thoughts direct this power. Whatever results we choose to change in our lifetime, the change we have to make to our personality is small.

The stick figure was created by Dr. Thurman Fleet in the 1930s. It is simple and yet so effective. We understand it. We can immediately grasp the underlying foundation that self-help has the power to change our thoughts. This means we can change our behaviors. The conscious mind is the thinking mind where we can think freely and sift through our thoughts and accept or reject any of those thoughts. Our thought information comes from our five senses (touch, smell, sight, taste and hear) and is based in the present.

Crossing the road we hear a car approaching. We immediately stop. This is the part of us that thinks and reasons. The conscious mind. The conscious mind is the part of our mind that will decide how much money we want. The conscious mind has the ability to accept or reject any thought. A person or circumstance can cause us to think about thoughts or ideas that can eventually determine the results in our life. All pain, pleasure and limitation is either originated in the conscious mind or accepted uncritically from an outside force.

OUR SUPERCOMPUTER

As we accept our thought it is impressed upon the second part of our personality, the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is like a supercomputer, data stored with a database of program behaviors, most of which we acquire between birth and the age of six. Our thoughts, decisions, emotions and actions are influenced from the programming in our subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is basically running our lives. Most of the time we are unaware of our behaviors. If not addressed quickly enough, our thoughts then crystallize into core beliefs, which become almost impossible to shift.

Most of us know that our minds control our actions and yet only a few of us actually look to change our actions. Many of us fail miserably with our resolutions. Why are we stuck within behaviors we dislike? Most of us don’t want to accept the real truth. The truth is always uncomfortable.

The subconscious mind is certainly the most magnificent part of us. It is the power center, and functions in every cell of our body. Our conscious mind has free thought and chooses to provide the sub conscious mind access to this thought. The sub conscious mind has no ability to reject this thought.

THERE ARE NO LIMITS

The subconscious mind operates in an orderly manner by law and expresses itself through us in feelings and in action. The thought we consciously choose to impress upon the subconscious mind, over and over, becomes a fixed part in our personality. These traits will then continue to express themselves without any conscious assistance till they are replaced. These traits are more commonly referred to as habits.

The subconscious mind is the godlike part of us. We refer to it as spirit. It knows no limits other than those the body consciously chooses. Although the body is the most obvious part of you, it is merely an instrument of the mind. Your thoughts or images are consciously chosen by the conscious mind and then impressed upon the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is in every cell of our body. It is what moves our body into action. The actions working with our thoughts and feelings determine our results. We learn to accept the fact that man is truly programmable. We recognize that what we put in, we get out. It’s like our mind is the hardware. Our thoughts, beliefs and paradigms are the software.

The stick figure diagram shows us how we can now recognize most of the time, we are not our own thoughts. The mind is often bipolar, where we can go from one end of the spectrum to the other. Thoughts control all our body’s functions and our emotions which in turn affect our behavior and results. Continually reminding ourselves that most of our thoughts are done so without our consent, it is easier to understand how a conscious consent is achieved.

CHANGE OUR SOFTWARE

We need to change our software to shift our behaviors. That software needs constant updating, as change and growth never end, it is continual.

Life has advanced so far and become so complex. Purpose of nature is the advancement and development of life. Every individual should have all that can contribute to the power, elegance, beauty and richness of life. You naturally want to become all that you are capable of becoming.

Everybody has the desire to realize the innate possibilities inherent in human nature. Success in life is becoming what you want to be. We live for the body, the mind and the soul. None of these is better or holier than the other. Which is desirable as neither body, mind nor soul can be full if one of the others cuts short its life and expression. Real life means to have complete expression of all that a person can give forth through the body, mind and soul. We cannot be really happy or satisfied unless our bodies are living fully in every function. The same is true of our mind and our soul. The stick person, the conscious and subconscious mind defines and holds all this together.

  1. Very interesting read and topic Stephen! I’ve actually seen that stick figure before. The sub conscious mind is a fascinating thing and sometimes I wish we would have a better access to it. But I’ve studied the subject enough to know that we can alter it through autosuggestion. Our conscious mind has the power to alter our sub-conscious mind but we need to be very aware of it. If we let negative thinking permiate our conscious mind, it will reinforce the negative beliefs and limitations in our sub-conscious mind. Are you familiar with Eckhart Tolles work by any chance? His take is that our real identity is the watcher that can observe our thinking and emotional reactions. And we have complete freedom to choose to not identify with them. Thinking it this way really helped me to change some reactive and negative thought patterns and to realize it really isn’t me, it’s just my ego that doesn’t like getting hurt. But it requires constant effort and it’s very easy to fall back into your own ways. That’s se sub conscious mind I guess, it takes time and consistency to change these processes.
